Lules Department

The department Lules located in the center of the province of Tucumán in northwestern Argentina, and is one of 17 administrative units in the province. It is bordered on the north by the departments Tafi Viejo, Yerba Buena and Capital, on the east by the departments Cruz Alta and Leales, to the south by the Departamento Famaillá and to the west by the Departamento Tafi del Valle. The capital of the department Lules named San Isidro de Lules and forms their urban center. Other important towns are San Pablo and El Manantial. The latter is part of the agglomeration of Gran San Miguel de Tucumán.

Economy

The agriculture and a growing industrial sector in the context of the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán build the economic foundation of the department. In its capital, San Isidro de Lules, and its environment, textiles and food ( Arcor ) and paper mills ( Papel Tucumán ) have settled.

Tourism

Villa Nogués, originally a summer resort of wealthy families from Tucumán, has been transformed into a tourist attraction that attracts a growing number of tourists. Also worth mentioning are the ruins of the church and the convent of San José de Lules which date from the 17th century and have been declared Monumento Histórico Nacional 1944.
