Lulu (company)

Lulu.com, founded in 2002 is a self-publishing platform in the print -on-demand process as a service provider for the self-published books, e-books, music, pictures, movies and calendar headquartered in Raleigh ( North Carolina) has.

History

The company was founded by Canadian Bob Young, who was also involved already in the founding of Red Hat. The company name (company name) is an old-fashioned, American term and means something like " remarkable person, thing or idea."

The start was rather modest with 55 000 printed books in the first two and a half years. Only in 2006, attracted to the sales and the operation was profitable. Mid-2007, it reached a monthly emissions of 160 000 books and printed at the same time the one millionth book.

Concept

Lulu.com completely dispensed with editors who proofread the texts and explained this by saying that the user must have full control over his lyrics and they wanted to impose on him any changes.

Books can be set at Lulu.com, if ordered by other users will be printed on demand. Only so many copies so it always works, how actually ordered. From the revenue side, printing costs are paid, the rest is less a commission on lulu.com to the author.

Some of the books listed there can be download free, such as the anarchists and the innocent people who died of the 1933 Scottish- German writer John Henry Mackay.
