Lumpkin County, Georgia

The Lumpkin County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Dahlonega. The city's name comes from the Indian word Taulonica, which means as much as "Yellow Gold".

Geography

The County in northern Georgia, about 40 km to the northern border of Tennessee and has an area of 738 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water, and bordered clockwise to the following counties: White County, Hall County, Dawson County, Fannin County and Union County.

History

Lumpkin County was formed on December 3, 1832 from parts of Cherokee County, the Habersham County and Hall County. It was named after Wilson Lumpkin, Governor of Georgia and a Congress Member.
