Luna 1960A, also known under the name Luna E-3 No.1, was a Soviet lunar probe and should, as already Lunik 3, circling the moon on a free return track and photograph him here, including the far side of the moon. Due to the failure of the upper stage of the launch vehicle the required speed could not be reached. The probe withdrew about 200,000 km from the earth and then fell back. The start of the second model from the Luna E-3 series a day later failed due to a failure of the launch vehicle.
