Luna Park, Leipzig

The Luna Park on Auensee in Leipzig's district True was an amusement park that existed from 1912 to 1932 at Auensee.

History

The site was located at the Leipzig Auensee, a former gravel pit. In 1911 started the construction of the main Restaurants, today's home Auensee. On 4 May 1912, the Luna Park was founded. 1913, the beach was opened on Auensee. On October 13, the authorization for a small amusement ride, the Luna Express was issued. Between 1912 and 1914, various restaurants and amusement rides built around the lake. It a mountain scenery track ( a then often built form of the roller coaster ) and a hippodrome were built. On 5 May 1914, the final acceptance of the main restaurant. The Luna - Park competed at that time as the "biggest entertainment establishment in Germany with a ½ million square feet ." As a result of the global economic crisis, the Luna - Park GmbH went bankrupt and was dissolved on 13 January 1932. 1934, the most entertainment facilities of the park were demolished. The main restaurant remained and was renamed in 1936 in Haus Auensee. 1941, the city of Leipzig was the owner of the entire Auenseegeländes.
