Band History

In 1989, two school friends J and Inoran formed the band Lunacy. Shortly thereafter came Sugizo and Shinya, both former members of the band Pinocchio, and Ryuichi, a former member of the band Slaughter, added. With this lineup, which was maintained until its dissolution in 2000, the band changed their name into Luna Sea and played their first live concert on May 29, 1989 at Machida Playhouse. In the same year they released their first demo tapes Lunacy and Shade. A year later, Lastly.

Initially, Luna Sea had trouble getting a record deal, as they unusually striking occurred in the then very conservative Japanese music scene. They presented themselves in the then typical Visual Kei style with black patent leather, very feminine, almost androgynous painted faces and long hair dyed. This occurrence brought them to the attention of X Japan guitarist Hide. This she again presented before his bandmates Yoshiki, who took them under contract in his self- founded independent label Extasy Records.

On April 21, 1991 their first album Luna Sea was published. The album reached position 1 of the Japanese indie charts and helped the band to the attention of several record companies. Luna Sea then signed a contract with MCA Victor and between 1992 and 1996 was followed by four studio albums and several singles.

The year 1997 ushered in a major musical turning point for Luna Sea. After the members had devoted nearly a year to their solo projects, their musical and visual style changed considerably.

In 1998, the song "I For You" became the TV series " Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake " (Eng. God, please give me more time ) as an intro / outro used.

Between 1999 and 2000, Luna Sea also played for the first time successfully in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei.

In 2000, the band released their last album. With Lunacy thus the circle was closed and marked the beginning of the band break. They produced one last single, Love Song, and on 27 December 2000 they played their last concert before the band break. Fans mourned the band after one of the biggest acts of the early visual kei movement, while the members pursued some solo projects.

After it was announced after a seven year break in the day of a lunar eclipse, the band played on December 24, 2007, a sold-out concert at the Tokyo Dome in front of 55,000 visitors. They also met with X Japan, as well as headlining bands like Dir en gray, MUCC, D' espairsRay, Versailles, Phantasmagoria and TM Revolution on the Hide Memorial Summit on May 5, 2008.

On May 29, the message " LUNA SEA REBOOT " was published on the official website and it is speculated about a re-recording of the activities.

After last months and another full moon 3, the band announced an urgent press conference in Hong Kong - the place to which they have given in 2000 their "separation" known.

Towards the end of 2010, they embarked on a world tour, which began in Bochum on 27 November. This was followed by Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Taipei and finally Tokyo and Kobe.

After the disaster in Japan in March 2011, published LUNA SEA their first single in ten years as a digital download and donated the proceeds to the victims. It was followed by other publications and, finally, a charity concert was announced, which took place at the Saitama Super Arena on 22 October 2011. This show has now been released on DVD and Blu -Ray.
