Luogosanto

Luogosanto ( galluresisch: Locusàntu, sacred place ) is a small municipality of the province of Olbia- Tempio in the north - east of Sardinia with 1876 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Luogosanto is a typical Sardinian shepherd village with a long tradition, nestled in the rolling hills of northern Sardinia, surrounded by ancient cork and holm oak forests. The place is located in the heart of the Gallura and has an area of ​​135.45 km ².

History

The Nuraghe Balaiana and leave some stone circles suspect that Luogosanto was inhabited around 2500 BC.

Attractions

  • Sanctuary of the Nativity of Mary, Basilica, overlooking the main square of Luogosanto. The holy door ( left of the main entrance ) is opened as part of the Festa Manna for a year every 7 years.
