Luopan

A Lo Pan, also Luo Pan (Chinese罗盘, Luopan ) written, is an extended compass used in Feng Shui.

Description

To the actual compass, which forms the center of the area are, on several ( simple variants have at least eight, the professional expenses up to 64 ), usually rotating rings attached symbols that are interpreted by the Feng Shui consultant.

The symbols are taken from the following levels of Feng Shui:

  • Yin / Yang
  • I Ching and thus BaGua
  • 5 - element theory
  • Flying Stars
  • Bazhi Suanming

The arrangement of the rings naturally varies greatly between schools of Feng Shui. But even within a school, both the arrangement of the rings and the symbols within the rings vary - depending on the experience of the master who has put together the ring.

The feng shui consultant uses the Lo Pan to as quickly as possible to get an overview of a place. For this purpose, the date of birth or the GuaZahl (the number of trigram in BaGua, which is calculated from the date of birth) set, for example. This results in the favorable and challenging directions of the client. These are drawn with the qi qualities of the living room / garden into the calculus.

Building a Lo Pan

Lo Pan's sometimes vary from type to type. A basic structure, however, is approximately the same for all versions.

  • Ground plate ( outer plate ): In order for the square base of the Lo Pan is referred mostly. Although only static basic element, the compass is valid without this plate than useless. It is always aligned parallel to each (target ) target.
  • Sky - disk (internal disk): This disk needs to be rotatable. In principle, the information can be read from the rotational position, always be evaluated according to the feng shui school that teaches the use of the respective Lo Pan. Based on that are apparently very similar Lo Pan's very different results can be achieved.
  • The sky pond: This is the central, usually somewhat sunken in the middle part of the compass. It contains a needle that aligns with the tip pointing to the magnetic north. Since a scale division is usually lacking, the compass is calibrated at the beginning of the use to the north by the sky plate as long as circular upward shifts until the compass needle reaches a fixed marker (often a colon between the needle needs to be adjusted ).
  • The intersection point: The compass is two " axes" (often: Strings) divided into four logical quadrants. Where to cross these lines, there are the actual measurement information.
  • The landscape of the Rings: These are i.d.R. a sub- division of the sky disk. It comprises Chinese characters and formulas which are correlated with the measurement result. The whole wealth of information available approach must be taken not inevitable. The evaluation assets depends on the skills of the user.
  • Water Balance: Behind the 6th level conceals a spirit level. This is intended to secure additional accuracy and stability during the measurement process.
