Lupfig

Lupfig (Swiss German: lʊpfig ) is a municipality in the district of Brugg in the canton of Aargau. It is located four kilometers south of the district municipal seat.

Geography

The municipality is located on the western edge of the Birrfelds, a vast plain between the Aare River in the west and the river Reuss in the east. The plain is mostly flat and is used for agriculture intensive. The eastern two-thirds of the elongated municipal area are completely flat. There is also a regional airport with an approximately 725 -meter-long airstrip. North of the 434 meter high Gugger Karpacz the Birrfeld from Hausener valley seals off. On the north-east Lupfig has a small share of the 500 meter high Eiteberg. The western third is located at the places steep northern slope of Mount Chest, up to a 647 meter high foothills of the Jura Mountains east of the Aare River, which separates the Birrfeld from Bünztal. Lupfig is conjoined with Birr, the boundaries between these once separate villages are no longer discernible.

The area of the municipality is 515 hectares, including 122 hectares of forested and built over 138 hectares. The highest point is 647 meters on the ridge of the Chest mountain, the deepest at 386 meters in the plane.

Neighboring municipalities are Hausen in the north, Mülligen in the east, in the southeast Birrhard, Birr in the south, Holder Bank in the southwest and joke in the West.

History

The first mention of Lupfanch was in 1273, when Count Rudolf I of Habsburg over the village left for the payment of debts to the monastery Wettingen. The place name is derived from Middle High German (ze the ) lupfenden cheek and means " the rising slope ." Lupfig belonged in the Middle Ages for its own office, the oldest possessions of the Habsburgs, whose headquarters is just a few kilometers away. In 1397 they transferred the basic and court rule to the monastery Königsfelden in Windisch.
