Lupo II of Gascony

Lupus II (Basque: Lope, French: Loup; † after 778 ) was a duke or prince of the south of the Garonne (now Gascony) settled Basques ( Wasconum dux / princesps ) in the 8th century.

Lupus offered 769 the Aquitanian duke Hunold fled to him asylum, but he delivered it later that year to King Charlemagne out after he threatened him with war. On this occasion, lupus subjugated the supremacy of the Frankish king. He is the last time called for the year 778.

Lupus II is assumed to be the progenitor of the later American vasco Dukes and various dynasties Count of Gascony, see house Gascony. His son was probably the 787 occurring Duke Adalric.
