Billet between Wegwitz and Zöschen

The billet is a right tributary of the Saale. She was up to the construction of the new billet in the 1930s, the largest tributary of the White Elster in their anastomosierendem underflow ( often referred to as inland delta ) and branched off in Leipzig from this. Together they flooded regularly Magpie billet - Aue, a large floodplain area between Leipzig and Halle.

Demarcation

The construction of the new billet the former billet was divided along with their numerous tributaries in several remaining sections. Billet designated today, the 25 km -long section, the former underflow, which flows into the Saale.

The other sections, such as the little billet, billet Nahle and old lead today in the New billet. The Sixtholzluppe said portion is now a pond with no outlet. The section between the Nahle ( in the Gustav- Esche -Straße) and the Alfred - Kunze- Sportpark in Leutzsch has been filled, but still forms the boundary between Leutzsch and truth.

Today's course

The billet branches at Kleinliebenau of the new billet, but is no longer fed by this. It flows on through Horburg- Maßlau and then takes Dölkau at the left side on the Augraben, who is a former branch of the Zschampert. In the course passes through the billet Zweimen, Zöschen, Wegwitz and Walldorf, where her flowing not also left the Lützener branch of Elster raft trench until its decommissioning. Then the billet flows through Tragarth and Löpitz where they left side receives the stream again. After she has passed shortly afterwards loess over, she united with the Old Saale, whose bed she uses up to its confluence with the Saale at Schkopau.

Human intervention

In the years 1936-1938 sections of the billet ( New billet ) and the White Elster were laid in the Leipzig area, straightened and diked. This measure for faster dissipation of the flood prevented the flooding of large areas of the Leipzig alluvial forest, but also promoted the progressive dehydration of natural wetlands and led thereby to endangering the adapted to the specific habitat of flora and fauna.
