Luso is a spa town and a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district of Mealhada, at the southern tip of the District of Aveiro.

Geography

Luso is located at the foot of the Serra do Buçaco and its nature reserve Mata Nacional do Buaco. It is 7 km from the district town of Mealhada, located about 30 km north of Coimbra.

History

The oldest documentation of the modern town dates from 1064th

In 1810 the Battle of Buçaco took place here in the Napoleonic invasion army was defeated under Gen.Massená of a British- Portuguese army under Gen.Wellington.

Since 1834 Luso is a separate municipality ( Freguesia ).
