Lustre (file system)

Lustre is a parallel, distributed file system, which usually is used in large cluster - computing environments. The name Lustre is derived from Linux and cluster. Lustre is licensed under the GNU GPL ( v2 only ) available and offers a high-performance file system for both small and large, across multiple locations cluster.

Since Lustre is especially designed for high performance and available under a free license, it is often used in the field of supercomputers. Today, all 15 of the TOP30 Supercomputer on the Lustre file system, including the former world's fastest TOP500 supercomputer Titan.

Lustre file systems are scalable and support thousands of client systems, petabytes (PB ) of storage space, and hundreds of gigabytes per second (GB / s) bundled Schreib-/Lese-Last. This makes them a popular choice for Lustre eg large data centers as Internet service providers, financial institutions or the oil and gas industry.
