Luther C. Carter

Luther Cullen Carter ( born February 25, 1805 in Bethel, Maine; † January 3, 1875 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1859 and 1861 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Luther Cullen Carter was born seven years before the outbreak of the British - American War in Bethel. His family then moved to New York City, where he pursued later commercial transactions. He sat in 1853 at the Board of Education ( Board of Education ) in New York City. When he retired from business life, he settled in Long Iceland City, where he pursued a job in agriculture. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1858 Carter was the first electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John A. Searing on March 4, 1859. In 1860 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and retired after March 3, 1861 the Congress of.
