Lutherkirche (Königsberg)

The Lutheran Church was a church on the cattle market in Königsberg.

Construction

Built by architect Friedrich Heitmann 1910, the Lutheran Church was an eclectic combination of Renaissance and Baroque. In plan, it was a hall building with four staircases. The main tower was built in the complex, not attached to the building. The staircases were marked from the outside by low spiers, while the main tower on the lower floor formed a large entrance hall and up had an open belfry. The spire was designed dome- like and wore a copper lantern. The interior was a rectangular hall with two side extensions. All around was a gallery. The whole was covered by a shallow coffered barrel ceiling.

During the Second World War only slightly damaged, the church was not repaired and demolished in 1976. She was the last sacral building from German time, which was eliminated in Kaliningrad, against the wishes of the people and in protest of the preservationists. Probably a cinema was built by her example and with their material.
