Luxembourg national rugby union team

The Luxembourg national rugby union team represents Luxembourg in the sport of Rugby Union. She plays in Division 2D of the European Nations Cup and could yet qualify for any World Cup. Luxembourg is divided by the World Association International Rugby Board in the third strength class ( third tier ).

The rugby was introduced in 1973 in Luxembourg, since 1976, the country is a member of the European Association FIRA. The first international match played in 1975 against Belgium Luxembourg and lost with 28:6. Since 1991 it is a member of the IRB and since taking part in the qualification for the World Cup tournaments.

The two clubs in the country, the Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL ) and the Rugby Club Walferdange ( RCW), play their games in other countries, because there is no league of its own in Luxembourg. The RCL is currently playing in the 2nd Bundesliga Süd in Germany and has previously played in France as well as many years in the Belgian first division. The RCW is part of the third Belgian league and is in contrast to the RCL mainly on young indigenous players.
