Luxor Governorate

Al - Uqsur (Arabic محافظة الأصق, DMG Muhafazat al - Uqsur ) or Luxor since 7 December 2009, an independent governorate in Egypt after it already existed as a tourist province since 2006. It covers 2960 km ² and 1,064,000 inhabitants possessed about 2012.

Capital of the recent Egyptian governorates is Luxor. In and around Luxor are some of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt. The area previously belonged to the government of Qena.

Location

The government extends to the western Niluferseite of Qamūlā in the north to Esna to the south and the east of al- Niluferseite Madāmūd in the north to the south of Esna. For government now also includes the cities of Esna and Armant.
