Luyten's Star

Luytens star is a red dwarf in the constellation Canis Minor ( Little Dog ).

With a distance of 12.40 light years, he is one of the nearest neighbors of the sun. Its diameter is about one tenth of the sun, its mass is one quarter, the luminosity is very low ( 0.0004 times the solar luminosity). He belongs to the spectral class M3 and is colored deep red. Its apparent magnitude is 9.84 m, the absolute magnitude of 11.94 m.

Photographic analyzes showed that Luytens star could have a planetary companion.

It was named after the Dutch astronomer Willem star Jacob Luyten, of particular its high proper motion of about 3.7 arcseconds per year.
