Luz-Saint-Sauveur

Luz -Saint -Sauveur is a commune in the arrondissement of Argelès -Gazost in the department of Hautes -Pyrénées in the Midi -Pyrénées region in the central Pyrenees. It has 980 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

Geography

The mountain resort is also called the Gave de Gavarnie in the upper reaches of the Gave de Pau. The Col du Tourmalet, connecting Luz -Saint -Sauveur with Campan is at 2115 meters above sea level the highest road pass in the French Pyrenees. The municipal area also includes the Luz Ardiden ski resort. The 13.4 km long serpentine of Luz- Saint- Sauveur to Luz Ardiden has a difference in altitude of 1036 meters and is considered one of the traditional "King stages " of the Tour de France and the Vuelta.
