Luzhanqi

Luzhanqi (Chinese陆战 棋, Pinyin lùzhànqí ) ( lit. ' land battle chess ' ) is a Chinese board game for two players, and there are also versions for four players. It has many similarities to Dou Shou Qi, Game of the Generals and the Western board game Stratego. The objective of the game is to capture the enemy's flag, where each player has only limited knowledge of the opponent's lineup.

Pitch

The Luzhanqi game board has a number of different features that have an impact on the movement of the figures:

  • Soldiers Station: An ordinary box, figures it can enter at will and it can be attacked and conquered.
  • Rail: A figure can be any number of spaces to travel in a straight line, as long as no other figure blocked the way.
  • Resting place: - A figure on the picnic box can not be attacked.
  • Mountains: - Figures can not move over these two spaces, nor attack.
  • No Man's Land: - These three fields are the only fields where characters can penetrate into the opponent's territory. However, figures can not stand on them, they can just happen.
  • Headquarters: - The flag must be placed on one of these two fields.

Figures

Each player has 25 characters, which are identical except for color of the markings. Here is a list, sorted by rank. Each player has:

  • A Field Marshal (司令), Rank 9
  • A general (军长), Rank 8
  • Two lieutenants (师长) Rank 7
  • Two brigadiers (旅长), Rank 6
  • Two colonels (团长) Rank 5
  • Two majors (营长), rank 4
  • Three captains (连长), Rank 3
  • Three column commanders (排长), Rank 2
  • Three engineers (工兵), rank 1 (see below )
  • Two bombs (炸弹) Rank 1 (see below)
  • Three landmines (地雷)
  • A flag (军旗)

Game play

Both players begin by drawing up the figures on their side of the court, directed to the rank images to them, so that the opponent does not see the signs. The game is about fashion, each player moves one piece per turn. In every move a character to any adjoining field can be moved or railways to more distant areas. Where a piece to a square, as is occupied by an opponent's piece, the rank of both figures is compared removed (either by the players or by a referee ) and d figure with the lower rank from the field. If both have the same rank, both are removed.

There are some exceptions, as some characters have special features and capabilities:

  • Engineers are the only characters who can move around corners, while the use of railways. Engineers can also conquer land mines, without being removed from the field.
  • Bombs can conquer any other figure, but thus eliminated from the field of play itself in the process. Bombs must not be placed in the front line ( sixth row ) in the beginning.
  • Landmines conquer any figure, from which they are attacked (except engineers ). Depending on the used rules, landmines after a conquest either removed from the game or not. Landmines may only be placed at the beginning in the first and second row and can not move from their position.
  • The flag must be placed in one of the two headquarters, which are located in the first row. It can also not be moved. If they conquered, the player who has captured it wins.
