The Lyddan Island is an ice-covered island on the southwestern edge of the Larsen Ice Shelf Riiser, which separates it from the Brunt Ice Shelf. It is located about 32 kilometers off the Princess Martha Coast in the eastern Weddell Sea and is about 72 kilometers long. Through three narrow arms, it resembles a clover leaf. Discovered and mapped the Lyddan Island was on November 5, 1967 by WR MacDonald on a reconnaissance flight. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US- ACAN ) after Robert H. Lyddan, employees of the United States Geological Survey (USGS ), who was active in the planning and management of the Antarctic mapping since the fifties.
