Lydie Schmit

Lydie Schmit ( born January 31, 1939 in Esch- sur -Alzette, † 7 April 1988) was a Luxembourg politician of the LSAP.

Lydie Schmit studied history and taught from 1963 as Lyceumsprofessorin first at a private school and in 1968 at the Lycée Hubert Clément. In 1970, she joined the LSAP and was elected in 1973 as Vice-President. From 1974 to 1979 she was president of the party. In 1979 she was elected to the Chamber, but she gave that position already on 30 August 1980. On November 10, 1980, she was elected President of the Socialist International Women and Vice-President of the Socialist International, which it remained until 1984. In 1984 she ran for the elections to the European Parliament and was until her death in 1988, Member of the European Parliament.
