Lyman James Briggs

Lyman James Briggs ( born May 7, 1874 in Assyria, in Battle Creek, Michigan, † March 25, 1963 ) was an American engineer, physicist and administrator.

Briggs studied at the Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University), the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and at Johns Hopkins University.

From 1917, officially in 1920, he worked at the National Bureau of Standards. Briggs was assistant director of the NBS 1926 and 1932 director.
