Lyman R. Casey

Lyman Rufus Casey ( born May 6, 1837 in York, Livingston County, New York, † January 26, 1914 in Washington DC ) was an American politician of the Republican Party, who represented the state of North Dakota in the U.S. Senate.

A native of the State of New York Casey moved with his parents in 1853 to Ypsilanti in Michigan. After completing his education, he worked for many years as a building material suppliers. In 1882 he settled in Carrington in the Dakota Territory, where he was rancher. He served as Chairman of the State Irrigation Committee of North Dakota and had in Foster County comparable with the District Administrator jobs Function of the county commissioner held.

After the recording of North Dakota as a state in the United States Casey was chosen for the Republicans in the U.S. Senate. His tenure there began on November 25, 1889; on March 3, 1893, he retired again from the Congress of after he had applied unsuccessfully for re- nomination by his party. During his time in the Senate he was chairman of the railroad committee.

As a result, he first moved to New York City, before returning to Washington, where he died in 1914.
