Lynchburg is an American small town with about 6,000 inhabitants (as of 2013) in the U.S. state of Tennessee, 120 km south of Nashville. The core city has only 400 inhabitants, the remaining inhabitants live in Moore County. The city and the county have a common administration.

The city

In the center there is a court building from the 19th century, and there are souvenir shops, restaurants and service businesses. Lynchburg is known as the seat of the distillery of whiskey producer Jack Daniel's. Every year more than 200,000 tourists whiskey distillery and the town. The distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper "Jack" Newton Daniel. Decisive for the settlement announced his discovery of a completely iron-free limestone spring on the edge of the town center. In the hills and mountains around Lynchburg store about 72 million barrels (2013 ) of the whiskey.

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the entire County. The relevant law is derived from the days of Prohibition and could be removed only through a democratic process, to which 1,000 votes of citizens of Moore County would be required.
