Lynden Pindling

The Right Honourable Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling ( born March 22, 1930 in Nassau; † August 26, 2000 ibid ) was from 1967 to 1973 the first black prime minister during the colonial period of the Bahamas and the first Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas from 1973 to 1992. During this time, he was Chairman of the Social Democratic Progressive Liberal Party. After a quarter of a century as head of government, he was voted among other things because of corruption scandals within his government and took over after the election defeat initially the role of opposition leader.

Lynden Pindling married on May 5, 1956 Marguerite McKenzie. He was in his youth as an excellent athlete and has received several awards.
