Lyngdal is a Norwegian town and commune in the province of Vest- Agder. It has 8037 inhabitants ( as of March 31, 2013).

The city was named after the river Lygna which it traverses. Lyngdal means as much as Lygna Valley.

The settlements Austad, Å and Kvås are actually the primordial cells of the Commune Lyngdal. There are settlements to the parsonage at the time. The priest lived in the church of Å. This church was currently the center, where they met. The pastor pair Gustav and Gabriel Kielland (1837 - 1854) are well-known pioneers of missionary work. Gustav Kielland is known throughout the country as the mother of the Women's Association. Ommundo Oftebro and Tobias Udland from Lyngdal included the first missionaries in Norway. There are many missionaries Lyngdal pulled from all over the world. They lived from agriculture, silviculture, fishing and seafaring. Agnefest was already a natural harbor and was registered in 1771 to the place of landing.

Lyngdal became a town on January 1, 2001. Principal economic activities of the coastal town are forestry and tourism.

The current city was created in 1963 by merging the cities and Austad Kvås. It is bounded on the southeast by Lindesnes, on the northeast by Hægebostad and to the north by Kvinesdal, on the west by Farsund.
