Lynn Schenk

Lynn Schenk ( born January 5, 1945 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. Between 1993 and 1995, she represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Lynn Schenk attended the public schools in New York and Los Angeles. In 1962 she graduated from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles. This was followed up in 1967 to study at the local University of California. After a subsequent law studies at the University of San Diego and its admission as a lawyer, she began to work as a lawyer. In the years 1970 and 1971, she continued her education in England at the London School of Economics, where she studied international law. Back in California she worked for some time as a head of department in the Attorney General's office. From 1972 to 1976 she was an attorney for the San Diego Gas and Electric Co. Thereafter, she served on the advisory board of the Vice- President Nelson Rockefeller and Walter Mondale. From 1977 to 1980 she was deputy and 1980-1983 full-time Minister for Trade, Transport and Housing of the State Government of California. After that she worked as a private lawyer 1983-1993. In 1988, she was as vice chair of the California campaign team of presidential candidate Michael Dukakis.

In the congressional elections of 1992, Schenk was in the then newly established 49th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they took up their new mandate on January 3, 1993. Since they Republican Brian Bilbray defeated in 1994, she was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1995. After the end of their time in the U.S. House of Representatives Lynn Schenk worked until 2003 in various capacities for the state government of California under Governor Gray Davis. Today, she practiced as an attorney for legal firms. She is a board member of several organizations and continues to participate actively in the political life. She is married to the law professor C. Hugh Friedman.
