Lynn Seaton

Lynn Seaton ( born July 18, 1957 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American jazz bassist and high school teachers.

Biography

Lynn Seaton first learned classical guitar and alternated with nine years to double bass. His professional career began in Ohio in the Steve Schmidt Trio. From 1980 to 1984 he was house bassist at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club in Cincinnati, then went to Woody Herman and 1985 for the Count Basie Orchestra, with whom he went on a world tour two years. From 1986 he lived in New York and he worked for Tony Bennett, George Shearing and 1991/92 with Monty Alexander. 1995-99 he was a member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio. As a freelance musician, he played after 1993, inter alia, Toshiko Akiyoshi with, Ernestine Anderson, Buck Clayton, Al Cohn, Kenny Drew Jr., Blossom Dearie, Sweets Edison, Herb Ellis, Frank Foster, Tim Hagans, Scott Hamilton, Winard Harper, Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Marian McPartland, Jay McShann, Mark Murphy, Ken Peplowski, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jimmy Raney, Emily Remler, Diane Schuur, Maria Schneider, Bud Shank, Maxine Sullivan, Mel Torme, Frank Wess, Joe Williams and Teddy Wilson. In 1998 he went to the University of North Texas, where he has taught since in the jazz program. Under his own name he produced three albums, Bassman 's Basement (1991, with Tim Horner ), Solo Flights ( Omnitone, 1996) and Puttin 'on the Ritz.

2006 Lynn Seaton was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
