Lynne Ramsay

Lynne Ramsay ( born December 5, 1969 in Glasgow ) is a multiple award-winning Scottish film director and screenwriter.

Life

Once she wanted to be a photographer first, Ramsay finally studied camera and directing at the prestigious National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, near London. Her graduation film Small Deaths was shown in 1996 at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize.

In 1999, Ramsay was film debut Ratcatcher, the portrait of a twelve year old boy growing up in the 70s in a working class neighborhood of Glasgow. Three years later, the award-winning film drama Morvern Callar Samantha Morton followed with in the lead role.

Her third feature film We Need to Talk About Kevin a youthful rampage, based on the novel by Lionel Shriver, competed in 2011 at the Cannes Film Festival for the Golden Palm. Starring Tilda Swinton is to see who won the European Film Award for her convincing portrayal of a traumatized mother and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Two years later Ramsay was appointed to the jury of the 66th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
