Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx)

The lynx (Lynx ) is a genus in the family of cats. Are included in this genus of four species, all of which occur in the northern hemisphere. The Iberian lynx, limited to the Iberian Peninsula Luchsart, is considered one of the most endangered cat species.

Features

Lynx are medium-sized, long-legged cats. Their talons they can feed. The short tail has a black finish. Lynx have a beard. On the tips of the ears black hair brushes are available, the back of the ears is black with a white or gray white spot which is more or less extended greatly. The coat color is variable, ranging from sand color over maroon and brown to gray. Often the coat is also spotted. Lynx have 28 to 30 teeth.

Behavior

Lynx are solitary, crepuscular and territorial. They are specialized hunters.

System

There are the following types:

  • Canadian Lynx (Lynx canadensis)
  • Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx)
  • Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus )
  • Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

In older literature, one sometimes finds the first three types to a single type together, the "North Lynx ." The caracal is sometimes referred to as " desert lynx " but belongs to a different genus cats. It has not yet been conclusively whether lynx had its origin in North America or in Eurasia and Africa. Fossil finds indicate members of this genus for the Pleistocene.
