Lyon County (Kentucky)

The Lyon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. In 2010, the County had 8314 inhabitants and a population density of 14.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Eddyville.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Kentucky, about 25 miles from Tennessee to the north and about 30 km from Illinois is located in the south. It has an area of 664 square kilometers, of which 105 square kilometers are water surface. The county is located on the lower reaches of the Cumberland and the Tennessee River. History

The Lyon County was formed on January 14, 1854 from parts of Caldwell County. It was named for Chittenden Lyon, a son of the early settler Matthew Lyon.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Lyon County 8314 people in 3272 households. The population density was 14.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 3272 households lived statistically 2.02 per person.
