Lyon–Moutiers DC transmission scheme

The DC line Lyon- Moutiers was the largest -scale according to the DC transmission method by René Thury system at all. She went into operation in 1906 and transferred electrical energy from Moutiers (probably in Moutiers Savoie département ) to Lyon.

The generating unit in Moutiers consisted of four series-connected generators, each of which two are operated by a common hydraulic turbine. Depending on the energy needed, the voltage was changed in the transmission line that could exceed 75 kV. Since the line was symmetrical, the tension between the two poles was a maximum of 150 kV. The line was 200 km long, of which 10 km in Lyon were performed as underground cable. The cable that was designed for 75 A, was subsequently operated with up to 150 Å.

The DC line Lyon- Moutiers was in operation until 1936 and was the most powerful DC transmission system of its time. It is worth noting that she could walk without the aid of modern power electronic components or components in operation at that time.
