Lyonel Trouillot
Lyonel Trouillot ( born December 31, 1956 in Port-au -Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian writer who has worked primarily as a poet, journalist, lyricist, essayist, editor and novelist. He also acts as an important social critic.
Life
Trouillot came from the upscale Haitian middle class. His father was a professor of literature and the boy grew up with literature, words, and books were of course in his family. Then he began to study law, after that he decided to become a writer.
Due to the repression of the government of Jean -Claude Duvalier, he left Haiti in the 1980s and went into exile in the United States. Later, he became speaker of the oppositional intellectual movement Collectif Non, who opposed the dictatorial ambitions of Jean -Bertrand Aristide.
He wrote for several Haitian newspapers and was co-founder of magazines like Lakansyel or Tem et Langay. He was also lyricist for various famous Haitian singer.
Trouillot tried simultaneously in Haiti act as a promoter of young literature. He promotes the literature workshop " Ateliers du jeudi soir ", where young writers can recite texts and obtain the advice of experienced writers. In 2011 he founded the Cultural Center " Anne -Marie Morisset ". He is also editor of the literary magazine " Demembre " that support the publications by young authors.
The literature is dominated by Trouillot social criticism and questions such as the role of aid agencies in the earthquake of 2010 or in general the depths of Haitian politics.
Trouillot now teaches as a professor in Port -au -Prince Creole and French literature. He lives in Port -au -Prince. In 2011 he was nominated for the prestigious Prix Goncourt. His sister Evelyne Trouillot is in Haiti also known poet and novelist. Other important relatives are his uncle, the historian Henock Trouillot, his brother, the political scientist Michel - Rolph Trouillot, and another sister, the children's book author Jocelyne Trouillot.
