Tautra Abbey Monastery Munkeby (1150 /80)

Lysekloster ( Hellige Maria monastery i lysis) is a former Cistercian abbey and in Norway. The ruins of the monastery are in the Norwegian municipality in Hordaland Os, 27 km south of Bergen, on the grounds of the manor Lysekloster Hovedgård.

History

The monastery was founded by the Foundation by the Bishop Sigurd of Bergen in 1146. Was Kloster Fountains Abbey (England ) from the filiation of Clairvaux Abbey Primary populated. From Lysekloster from 1207 Tautra Abbey was settled in the year. The first abbot was Ranulf from York. The monastery was one of the richest in Norway; It included 200 yards, including a grange in opedal in Hardanger with buildings of stone. The monastery was on the train the Reformation in 1536 /37 of the Danish King Christian III. secularized. In the following two centuries, the plant was demolished and used as a quarry, including for the Rosenkrantz Tower in Bergen, used. Excavations were 1822, 1838 and 1888/1889 ( under the direction of Fortidminneforening ) instead. In the years around 1920, restoration work took place. Today it is protected as a National Monument.

Buildings and plant

The nave church was in the northeast of the exam. Chapels were on both sides of the choir. The exam had two floors, the upper floor was the dormitory. The other premises corresponded to the scheme of medieval Cistercian monasteries.
