Lyubov Yegorova

Lyubov Egorova Ivanovna (Russian: Любовь Ивановна Егорова, born May 5, 1966 in Sewersk ) is a former Soviet / Russian cross-country skier.

Career

Egorova won at the Winter Olympics six gold medals: 1992 in Albertville over 10 km ( Pursuit ), 15 km ( mass start ) and with the 4x5 km relay in 1994 in Lillehammer over 5 km, 10 km ( Pursuit ) and the 4x5 km relay. In addition, it was three-time world champion: 1991 over 30 km and with the season, the 1993 season. In 1993 she won the overall ranking of cross-country skiing World Cup. In 1994, she received the Holmenkollen medal.

In April 1994 Jegorowa the award Hero of the Russian Federation was by a decree of the then Russian President, Boris Yeltsin awarded.

During the World Cup 1997, the use of anabolic steroid bromantan was detected in the doping control at Jegorowa. On 26 February 1997, three days after her victory in the race over 5km, she was stripped of the gold medal ( this went to Jelena Välbe ). After the two- year ban she attempted a comeback, but could never build on the previous achievements and entered in 2003 finally back.
