M. M. Logan

Marvel Mills Logan ( * January 7, 1874 in Brownsville, Edmonson County, Kentucky, † October 3, 1939 in Washington DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Marvel Logan was born on a farm in Kentucky. After his education he worked himself first two years as a high school teacher before he headed a vocational school for teachers. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1896. In his hometown of Brownsville Logan worked as a lawyer in the sequence and took the time and public offices. He first belonged to the governing body of the City (Board of Trustees ). Later, he was from 1902 to 1903 Prosecutor of Edmonson County. In 1912 he became Deputy Attorney General of the State of Kentucky. In 1915 he moved up to the Attorney General, a position he held until 1917. From 1917 to 1918 he served as chairman of the tax authorities of Kentucky.

1918 Logan moved to Louisville to 1922 to Bowling Green. He also worked there more than a lawyer and belonged to several government agencies before he was appointed in 1926 a judge of the Court of Appeals of Kentucky. In 1931, had also presided as Chief Justice held.

1930 Marvel Logan was elected as a Democrat in the U.S. Senate. He took up his post in Washington on March 4, 1931 and remained there after a re-election in 1936 until his death in 1939. During this period he was also Chairman of the Mining Committee ( Committee on Mines and Mining). In 1933, he stood before the subcommittee, who had been commissioned by the Senate to investigate allegations of corruption that had arisen in connection with the election of John H. Overton to the Senate. The activities of Huey P. Long, the members of the Committee participated in particular targeted. The guided by Logan investigation revealed that vote-rigging had been made (including through the use of straw man candidate ). However, no further action against Overton were initiated.
