M. Scott Peck
Morgan Scott Peck ( May 22nd, 1936 in New York City; † 25 September 2005 ) was an American psychiatrist, psychotherapist and writer.
Life
Peck studied at Harvard University. 1958 to 1963 he received his doctorate at the " Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ." 1963 to 1972 he was first independently as a psychologist in the U.S. Army, then as a psychiatrist. In 1978 he published his first book, The Road Less Traveled ( German " The less committed way," published as The Road Less Traveled, 1986), which became a worldwide success. The book was sold in North America alone six million times, translated into 20 languages and appeared 258 times on the bestseller list of the New York Times.
1984 Peck was honored with the "Kaleidoscope Award for Peacemaking ," in 1994 with the " Temple International Peace Prize" and in 1996 with the " The Learning, Faith and Freedom Medal" at Georgetown University.
Peck died of pancreatic and liver cancer at his home in Connecticut. Peck was married twice. With his first wife, Lily Ho, he had three children. To let well due to his infidelity Lily divorced him in 2003. In 2004, he married Kathleen Kline Yates Peck.
Work
After his first novel, published in 1978 The Road Less Traveled was followed by other books such as People of the Lie: The Hope For Healing Human Evil, Meditations From the Road and Further Along the Road Less Traveled. Another important publication is the book " The different drum", published in 2007 in German language.
In the book The Different Drum: Community Making and Peace (1988; German: Community Education: The path to authentic community, 2007), he describes four stages of development, must go through each group if they want to be able to work: pseudo community, chaos, emptiness and authenticity. With this book, Peck laid the theoretical foundation for this community-building work. With the establishment of the foundation " FCE - Foundation for Community Encouragment " In 1984, he tried to put into practice his knowledge. It was set primarily on the implementation in enterprises. The approach enjoyed in this period of high popularity. Today it is no longer applied in business, but found in communities of interest. So is the " WE " process the " current community-building method " Community Tempelhof in Kreßberg. Many points of standing on a Christian foundation and inspired by the work of other religions are considered esoteric. Stories and examples are - in addition to my own experience - often from these areas. However, Peck is explicitly just to atheists.
