M3 (Istanbul Metro)

The line M3 is the third metro line of Istanbul Metro. She was on September 10 2012 at the test operation with passengers and was officially opened on 31 March 2013. History

The construction of the M3 was triggered by the application of Istanbul for the 2020 Olympics. An efficient rail-based rapid transit connection and consequently good accessibility of sports facilities is considered a necessary condition for the bid to host the Games. Regardless, however, several large housing estates have emerged in the northwestern district of Başakşehir, where more than 200,000 people live. This should be better connected with the M3 to the city center, so as to avoid further burdens on already over-crowded road network through commuter traffic.

Construction of the line was begun in May 2006, the costs were estimated at 900 million U.S. dollars. In the planning and construction phase, the line was still wearing the name M5. However, this was replaced in July 2012 by the name M3 because the planned and previously known as M3 metro line from Aksaray renamed after Kirazlı in M1B M3 and the name thus became free. The shell of the tunnel was completed in March 2009 and the interior finishing in March 2012. Since September 2012, the line is in test mode with passengers, in which particularly emphasizes the new Istanbul, several automatic systems of the line are intensively validated. Course

The M3 has its provisional southern terminus at the station Kirazlı where there is an interchange with metro line M1B, which was created on 14 June 2013.
