Ma'an

Government

Ma'an (Arabic معان, DMG Ma ʿ ān ) is a city in Jordan. It is the capital of the eponymous province in the south of the country.

There is an ancient city with the same name in the southwest of the modern city.

It is an important hub along the ancient trade routes that lead from Egypt to the Sinai or from the Hejaz in the west of Saudi Arabia coming to Syria and was once considered the center of Dattelpalmenzucht and fruit growing. Ma'an is a station on still in operation section of the Hedjaz Railway.
