National team career

Ma Wenge was from 1988-1997 a member of the Chinese national team. During this time he was very successful and is still one of the players who have most participated in a World Cup for a country.

Game system

Ma Wenge has a very dynamic topspin play from half-distance - both with pros and Rückhandtopspins - as well as a good backhand block. He was one of the first world-class Chinese who were very successful with the Shake hand position. He has preferred to topspin with short arm movements and strong use of the wrist. This - now less common - Topspinvariante requires a very accurate game - however uncomfortable for the opponent because spin and direction of the ball are very late to recognize. Ma Wenge is one of the best players against cutting defense.
