Maa languages
The Lotuxo -Maa languages are a subgroup within the Eastern Nilotic languages in the Nilo-Saharan language family. It comprises eight languages , which are spoken in various parts of East Africa, and is divided into the Lotuxo group ( spoken in South Sudan ) and the Ongamo -Maa Group ( Kenya and Tanzania).
- Lotuxo Lotuxo - also called Otuho or Lotuko, in the south of Sudan, Torit District, about 135,000 speakers
- Dongotono - in South Sudan, southeast of Torit, about 6,200 speakers
- Lango - in South Sudan, Torit District, about 20,000 speaker → not to be confused with the Lango, which is spoken in Uganda
- Lokoya - in South Sudan, Torit District, about 40,000 speaker
- Lopit - in South Sudan, northeast of Torit, about 50,000 people
( The Torit district lies to the east of the White Nile. )
- Ongamo -Maa Maa - the language of the Maasai and Samburu, in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania, a total of about 880,000 speakers
- Ongamo ( Ngasa ) - in Tanzania, eastern foothills of Kilimanjaro, only a few speakers
