Maanam

Maanam is a Polish rock band, one of the most popular representatives of their genre, with roots reaching back to the Polish hippie movement.

History

The origin of the name of the group is not entirely clear. Olga Jackowska ( * 1951 ), called " Kora ", the singer of the band, is of the opinion that he was sprung from the ancient Persian word of the language for " I am." Her husband, however, the bandleader Marek Jackowski (1946-2013) said that the name is an abbreviation for his duet with Milo Kurtis in 1975, " MaM ".

The band appeared in the cast " Kora, Jackowski and Kurtis " for the first time in 1976. After the departure of Kurtis to the group " Osjan " John Porter replaced him, and the group appeared at that time under the name " Maanam Elektryczny prysznic " ( " Maanam electric shower " ) and played on mystical Eastern music with very rocking sound.

In 1979, Porter left the group and founded his own formation, the " Porter Band", and the Jackowskis played together with " Dżamble " their first single a. The group debuted at the open-air festival in Luban / Pomerania to their occupation found Krzysztof and Ryszard Ryszard Olesiński and Kupidur.

The first album was recorded in 1980 and released a year later under the name Maanam. The cast also included Paweł Markowski ( percussion) and the jazz saxophonist Zbigniew Namysłowski. Many pieces from these plates were successful, and the album itself is one of the classics of Polish rock.

A year later, the next album was released, O! That also has jazz trumpeter Tomasz Stanko is heard.

1983 was published in English Night Patrol and 1984 the Polish Nocny Patrol. This album is widely held as the most outstanding work of Marek Jackowski and Kora. In 1989, immediately prior to the temporary resolution of Maanam you Ściemnia (It is dark) recorded. The album was not a commercial success, but it is especially true for its experimental sound often considered one of the best of the bunch. At this time, a video of the band was also seen for the first time on MTV.

1991 saw the return of the group with Derwisz i AnioĹ ( The dervish and the Angel ). Again Maanam celebrated successes with the derived therefrom titles Wyjątkowo zimny maj ( An exceptionally cold May ), AnioĹ (angels) and Co znaczą te słowa (What do these words mean ). With the end of 2008, the "temporary" called the breakup of the band was announced. The bandleader Marek Jackowski died on 18 May 2013.
