Maarten Raven
January Maarten Raven (* 1953 in Utrecht) is a Dutch Egyptologist.
Life
After graduating from high school urban Utrecht Raven studied Egyptology and art history at the University of Leiden. In 1984 he received his doctorate with a thesis entitled " Symbols of resurrection: three studies in ancient Egyptian iconography ".
Raven is since 1978 Head of Egypt at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden ( German: National Museum of Antiquities ) in Leiden. In addition to his work at the Museum, he has been active since 1975 at the ancient Egyptian necropolis of Saqqara. There he works (since 1999 Prospector ) in the collaboration of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, the Egypt Exploration Society ( 1975-1998 ) and the University of Leiden (1999). In September 2012, he was appointed professor ' Museology from the Old Egypt ' Leiden University.
Raven has written widely about the museum collection of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and his fieldwork in Saqqara.
