MacArabic encoding

MacArabic is a Mac OS encoding. It encodes the Arabic script.

MacArabic based on ISO 8859-6, but is incompatible with this. Furthermore, additional characters for Persian and Urdu are encoded.

Many punctuation marks are encoded twice. This is because at the time of writing this character set of the Mac had only rudimentary bidirectional support, and every punctuation mark in a left - to-right and right-to - left version had to be coded.

The number of characters in the ASCII range can be used both as a European as well as Arabic-Indic digits.

MacFarsi

MacFarsi is a Mac OS encoding. It differs only in that the Persian digits replace the Arabic-Indic digits from MacArabic, otherwise it is identical to MacArabic.
