Macauley Island

Macauley Iceland (formerly Macaulay Iceland ) is the second largest island of New Zealand Kermadecinseln. It is located in the Pacific Ocean 110 km south-southwest of Raoul Iceland.

The Mount Haszard reaches a height of 238 meters, the island is about 2 kilometers long and 220 meters along with the eastern side Haszard Island Iceland 3.06 km ² (of which Haszard Iceland about five acres or 0.05 km ²).

The island is located on the southeastern edge of a submarine caldera 12 km in diameter and a depth of 1.1 kilometers. The caldera was created in a volcanic eruption, which is dated by radiocarbon method in the second half of the 5th millennium BC. In the years 1825 and 1887 there was evidence of submarine eruptions near the Macauleyinsel.

Until the 19th century, settlers lived here temporarily, since the island is uninhabited. In bad weather, the landing of boats is impossible. Macauley Iceland is a part of the Kermadec Islands Marine Reserve and may therefore not be populated and accessed only under certain conditions.
