Maceratino

Maceratino is a rarely grown white grape variety in the Marche region of Italy. She is admitted there in the province of Macerata. Small plantings are also known in the provinces of Ancona and Asccoli Piceno. The bestockte surface is specified with approximately 380 hectares. It is often also called Greco Maceratino. As can be seen from the list of synonyms, a relationship is suspected with the varieties Greco Bianco or Verdicchio. If this should confirm it would belong to the large Trebbiano family. In the Marches, it is used in wines Denominazione di origine controllata Colli Maceratesi. The variety produces yellow straw wines that are fragrant and slightly neutral in flavor.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The shoot tip is colored white greenish. The young leaves are slightly hairy and woolly, but mottled brown greenish color.
  • The large leaves are five-lobed and sinuate medium low. The petiole is lyrenförmig open. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are medium in size compared to other varieties.
  • The cone - shaped to cylindrical cluster is large and dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of a golden yellow color. The flavor of the berries is neutral.

The vigorous vine matures grew about 30 - 35 days after Chasselas, and thus is considered very late maturing. The returns are usually very high, so that a reduction in yield must be performed by a specific vine training in order to achieve good quality wines.
