Machir

Machir (Hebrew מכיר ) denotes a settled in Transjordan tribe of Israel in biblical times.

Etymology

The name comes from the Hebrew verb Machir מכר ( sell ) and means " the Sellers ".

Biblical representation

The tribe of Machir according to Machir the son of Manasseh, named (Num 26,29 EU). He does not count as a separate tribe among the twelve tribes of Israel, but is attributed to the tribe of Joseph, which in turn is divided into sub- tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim (Num. 36.1 EU). As indicated, the son of Machir, Gilead, the settlement area is around perimeter of this city (Tell Rumeith ) suspects (Dt 3,15 EU), in the Iron Age ( 1200-1000 BC). The last mention is the strain in Ri 5.14 EU as a squad in the Debora battle.
