Máchovo jezero

The Machovo Lake ( German: Macha Lake, formerly also: Velky Dokský rybnik, German: Hirschberg Great Pond) was with 350 acres of water for a long time the largest pond in northern Bohemia. Today, its area is only 278 hectares and is located in the city Doksy ( Hirschberg at the lake) in the North Bohemian Liberec Region.

Laid out the pond in 1366, with Emperor Charles IV himself has created hand. It is located in a source area, and will continue from Břehyňský rybnik ( Heidemühlteich ) and Čepelský rybnik ( Tschöpelteich ) fed.

In honor of the Czech romantic poet Karel Hynek Macha, the area around the Bezděz ( Bösig ), which is after him called Máchův Kraj, well-visited and has been described several times, the pond was named Machovo Lake, before the names were Velky rybnik or Hirschberský rybnik common.

The Machovo Lake is not only a popular camping center at its shores nesting site for waterfowl, and there are protected areas for rare plants.
