Maciej Żurawski

Maciej "Magic" Żurawski [ matɕej ʒurafsci ] ( born September 12, 1976 in Poznań, Poland ) is a former Polish football player.

Club career

The striker Maciej Żurawski began his career in the youth department at Warta Poznan and had his debut with the same club in the first Polish league in 1994. In 1997 he moved to local rivals Lech Poznan. His breakthrough came, however, only when he joined Wisła Kraków in 1999. With Krakow he was 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 Polish Champion and Polish Cup winner 2002 and 2003. Between 2002 and 2004 he was top scorer in the Polish league. From the 2005/06 season he played for Celtic, with whom he has two times Scottish champion, twice won the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup winners once. With Celtic he also played in the UEFA Champions League, which is eluded him in his previous clubs. In January 2008, he joined the Greek first division AE Larisa and completed 42 league games in which he scored 15 goals in 1.5 years. For the 2009/2010 season Maciej Żurawski moved to Cyprus Omonia Nicosia. With Omonia he was in his first season and had the same master with 8 goals in 23 games even significant share. End of 2010, moved back to Poland Wisła Kraków, where he end his career by winning the Polish championship. Overall, he graduated in the Polish Ekstraklasa 251 matches and scored 121 goals in these.

National

From 1998 to 2008 Maciej Żurawski completed 72 caps for Poland, scoring 17 goals. He participated in the Soccer World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea and at the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany with Poland. He also starred in the squad for the 2008 European football championships in Austria and Switzerland. He was also in some games captain of the Polish team.
